Flipside Competitive Team

Flipside Competitive Team.

Flipside Gymnastics offers a competitive team for Gymnasts who desire more challenge and dedication to their sport. We offer Junior Olympic levels 2- 10, Excel Bronze- Diamond, ages 4+. Gymnasts will participate in competitions throughout the meet season. This allows gymnasts to evaluate personal progress, while also learning the importance of their role as a teammate.

Our competitive team functions by invite only. Yearly evaluations are completed within compulsory classes, to examine strength, flexibility, and skill ability. Invitations are then sent out for our team tryouts event, which will operate as a placement process, in order to determine which level of team gymnasts would best fit into. At team tryouts, each gymnast will again be evaluated & then receive their placement in a level group, along with other information regarding the competitive program!

If your gymnast shows a special interest in the competitive team program, you may also email flipsidegymnasticsmi@gmail.com to request an evaluation.

Gymnastics Accessories:

Leotards: If your gymnast is in need of some new practice wear, there are multiple brands that offer good quality training leotards. Below, some good options are linked.

Grips: NOTE: Grips are only required after a coach has informed you of your gymnasts readiness to wear.

You can size your gymnast at home by following the instructions below:

How to size hands for grips

If you would prefer a coach to size your gymnast, this can be done in the gym.

Where to buy Reisport Standard grips

Standard Grips are generally worn by all ages and levels.

Where to buy Reisport Protec grips

Reisport Protec Grips are made from a thicker, more durable leather. This increases longevity in grip quality, although may take longer for a gymnast to “break in” (leather forms to hand).

*Choice between standard and protec is up to each athlete’s preferences. We suggest younger athletes use Standard grips, as the thicker leather may be more difficult for smaller hands to feel/ grip the bar.

*Please Note: Once a gymnast begins wearing grips, they must be replaced every six months. Grips are made from leather, which does stretch and thin over time. This can be a great safety risk if your gymnast is using “dead” grips.

Optional gymnasts (Levels 7- 10): It is recommended to have at least 2 pairs of useable grips (especially during meet season) in case of emergency. (grip ripping/ breaking).

Due to the material of the grip, they will take a few practices to break in, and grips cannot be shared, as the leather forms to each athlete’s hand. Having 2 pairs of useable grips will help prevent any athlete emergency if something were to happen to their grips.

Wrist Bands: Wrist bands are required to wear under grips as protection to the skin. There are multiple options when buying wrist bands, however white is required for competition.

Tiger Paws: Tiger paws are extra wrist support for optional level gymnasts (6+) who may require it. NOTE: Wrist supports are only required after a coach has informed you of your gymnasts readiness to wear.
